Ok, so any one who has not some how picked up on this completely over blown story about our fine mayor Sam Adams. I’ll catch you up, he had sex, and lied about it before an election. *gasp* I know it’s like thats never happened before. What is wrong with people, some how the act of voting for some one to do something for you some how seems to carry some extra burden of righteousness?

I know that it’s tough, I can only imagine how hard this has been for you. You can do so much for this city, sure it hurts that you lied to us, but that’s what people do. It happens, life goes on. Please, I did not vote for you to be a local saint, I voted for you because I felt that you can help make this city an even better place to live.

It’s all about perspective, ok so he lied about having sex. It’s not like he got us in to a war or something that some how effects my daily life. Sure lying is not the best thing for a politician to do in the first place, though really when was the last time that you found a politician fessing up and apologizing? Shouldn’t that say more about his character then anything?
I thought that he was the best guy for the job when I voted for him, I still think that he’s the best guy for the job. I want to see where he can take this place, Portland is great but theres always room for improvement. Just like Sam, great guy, room for improvement, apology accepted, lets get back to work.

I don’t think you get why people are mad.
Imagine if you will, that at age 20 you were raped. Noone really cared or listened to you and it took a lot of hard work to get through the trauma.
Then imagine it’s 10 years later, and a young gal says she was raped. You give her all the support that you had always needed. And then months later she tells you that she lied.
Imagine in your gut how you would feel. Because that is what many in the gay community feel when one of our own cries wolf. We need to ‘rape’ word or in this case ‘homophobia’ word to mean something, to be a serious and cared about issue. Using it without truth is defiling it, and hurting all the others for whom they depend on it to mean something real, be sacred, be safe.
Thank you S for chiming in, though I think that you’ve trying to inflate your position by bringing up the topic of rape. This is not a discussion about an abhorrent sexual act, nor is this post about sexual orientation, this is a post about lying. While rape and sexual orientation are topics that can be discussed, this is not the forum for them. So, if I were to remove anything off topic from your comment, then what your comment has been reduced to is :
In short, yes, I think that the act of being lied to is something that, rightfully, inspires hurt. Though, if you read my post again, you will see that my point is that things were taken way to far, that there was a group that were asking for a “punishment” that in no way fit the crime.
I think that Sam was punished enough, he has a bad mark on his political record, only time will tell how that will effect him. He was blasted by the media for a good week and there will be a potential cloud over his time as mayor. But thats enough. In my mind, he is still the right man for the job and I’m glad that he has stayed in office.
